What To Expect

Meet your guide and coach at the Gloucester Road tube station, London, 10 minutes prior to your tour's departure time. Tour start time varies, please select when booking.

With your fellow Downton Abbey fans, board the bus and listen to your guide's commentary about the show's making and behind-the-scenes facts. Watch the scenery out the window as you journey through Oxfordshire to the village of Bampton, which stands in as Downton Village in the show. See familiar sights such as Matthew's house, the post office, and the church during a guided walking tour.

Back on the bus, head for Highclere Castle, where you will be provided with a self-guide leaflet to inform you during your three hours of free time. There are places to buy lunch and souvenirs at the castle.

Return to central London for drop-off at the end of the day.

Mum and l had an unforgettable day visiting Highclere Castle and Bampton on the Downton Abbey and Village Tour. Actually, the Tour surpassed all our expectations. This was mainly due to Emma and Richard being wonderful tour guides and providing us with interesting background information relating to the Downton Abbey series that most of us were unaware. We also enjoyed reminiscing the series while watching the first few episodes as we travelled in the coach. I thoroughly recommend this tour to Downton Abbey enthusiasts.

The guided tour of Bampton was nice and the tour of Highclere was also nice. If you are a fan of the show you will enjoy the tours. Our guides were knowledgable and friendly. The bus transportation was comfortable and equipped with charging ports and tv’s.

Our tour guides, Pam and Richard, were excellent and very easy-going. It was a fun tour and we got good fun-facts. Additionally, the info and time provided was enough to see the castle and grounds and do some shopping. We definitely recommend this tour.

Tour was more focused on filmmaking than history. House is ruined by non period current family photos and modern books. Extremely limited house tour (only one floor and a half).

Wonderful Tour for Downton Abbey Fans

If you're a Downton Abbey fan, this tour will not disappoint you. The only negative was not being able to take photos inside the lovely castle. We toured the castle and grounds, and then visited the gift shop and had lunch in the lovely area behind the castle. Beware of the bees if you're eating anything sweet there! We ordered scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. As soon as we opened the jam, a dozen or more bees descended upon us. They were aggressive and could not be shooed away. Trying to move away from them was useless, too. They followed us. In the end, we were unable to eat the scones because of the bees swarming on them. We toured the very charming and quaint village of Bampton where Downton Abbey village scenes are filmed before going to the castle.. A funny thing happened during our walking tour of the village. A police car kept driving slowly through the streets, obviously looking for someone or something. Our tour guide commented that she'd never seen police in Bamption in all the dozen of tours she'd led in the village. Some tour members were speculating that perhaps they were looking for a thief who stolen from one of the shops. After several trips up and down the street, the police car stopped beside our group and asked if we'd seen a little dog. All the searching and commotion was for a wayward pup! Many thanks to our guide, Catherine, and our driver for making our day very enjoyable.

Highclere castle was amazing. The day was great The church at bampton was lovely. The only downside was the dvd didn't work on our coach so we couldn't watch the first and last episodes as promised. This didn't spoil our day though as Stuart (the tour guide) was so entertaining.

Touring the house was definitely the highlight for us. They had large photos from the filming of the show in the rooms where they were filmed. This really brought Downton Abbey into clearer focus for us.

The whole experience of our trip was excellent !!! The driver was very friendly and got us to our destinations safely & on time. Ben our tour guide was fabulous, his knowledge about the tour was amazing with lots of humour thrown in. Ben was very attentive to everyone on the tour ,giving everyone lots of tips from what to look out for at Highclere to getting food.There was even someone on the coach who was gluten free & he went out of his way to find them food. Nothing was too much for him ! Overall the trip was excellent, Ben is a lovely young man who made the trip an amazing one & I hope he gets the recognition that he deserves from the company that he works for . Thanks Ben .

Downton Abbey fans this is a must. Tour guide was enthusiastic about the trip and the groups overall experience for the day. The stop at Brampton and then at Highclere we’re incredible. Depending on your timed ticket tour the house first so you have time. Make sure you take time to walk the grounds and the Secret Garden
